"I first met Nicky in 2006 when we were students together at UCT's Graduate School of Business, doing our Professional Coaching Certification (PCC). The more we spent time together the more I became aware of her incredible ability to display empathy, understanding and genuine care for others. Nicky has used her training in the behavioural sciences to shape her professionalism as a coach and her engagements with others. To me Nicky upholds the core values of a good coach in her warmth, ability to put people at ease and listen very intentionally. To her the coaching relationship is about the client."

"Nicky has an easy and intuitive way of dealing with others. She manages to get the ideal balance of care and confrontation and has the ability to get to the heart of the matter without being distracted. While this could be experienced as threatening it is not. Her acceptance and non-judgemental approach encourages both curiosity and transparency in those with whom she works and she is a real asset for those interested in genuine change."

This letter demonstrates my support of Nicky Hockey’s application as a PCC (Professionally Certified Coach). I have known and worked with Nicky as a coach and as her teacher for the last 5 years. In that time I have both heard and observed her coaching. She works at or above the PCC level and for this reason I recommend her without hesitation. She is a compassionate, creative, pragmatic, skilful coach who supports the growth and development of her clients unequivocally.

Nicky is a sensitive and intuitive coach. She is non-threatening and creates a safe space where you can be open and even vulnerable, without feeling exposed. I gained incredible insight into my own blind-spots and was able to understand more about my personality/make-up, which in turn helped me to interpret and recognise negative and positive aspects of my behaviour and how that directly impacts on my professional and personal relationships. There was no instant solution but by going through the coaching process with her, I grew in confidence and self-awareness.  I was able to implement changes and new ideas, and with her support could objectively assess how those changes improved my self-esteem and working environment. I was challenged to take responsibility for my own happiness and going through the coaching process was a catalyst for many new positive changes.
